Making the BEST Food Choices: Navigating the Playing Field in Any Situation
by Brooke Joanna Benlifer, RD
Look for foods that fit the 4 basic premises of BEST
BALANCED (a healthy mix of high fiber or complex carbohydrates, protein, and some healthy, unsaturated fat)
ENERGY (foods that will provide long-lasting fuel, versus a quick sugar high that sends you crashing soon afterwards)
SATISFYING (Look for foods that appeal to you because of their freshness, aroma and ability to curb your hunger.)
TASTE (Choose foods whose taste YOU enjoy, versus foods which someone else thinks you “should” eat. That said, be flexible in your willingness to sample new foods!)
